How Many Pages Should Your Booklet Have? A Practical Guide

Page count isn't arbitrary — it's tied directly to how the booklet is bound, so here's how to land on the right number first time.
1. Start with your purpose
Before you design anything, decide what the booklet actually needs to do. A quick product overview for direct mail needs far fewer pages than a full staff training manual or a company brand book.
2. Know the minimum page count
To count as a booklet rather than a folded leaflet, you need at least 8 pages. The true minimum then depends on how it's bound:
- Saddle-stitched (stapled): 8 pages minimum
- Wiro or comb bound: around 16 pages
- Perfect bound (square spine): 32 pages and up, ideally 48–52+ so it sits well on the spine
3. Know the maximum
Going too far the other way wastes paper and budget. As a guide:
- Saddle-stitched: up to 64 pages
- Wiro or comb bound: up to 64 pages
- Perfect bound: up to 200+ pages
4. Pages always come in multiples of four
Every booklet is built from folded sheets, and each sheet adds four pages. If your page count doesn't divide by four, you'll end up with blank pages tacked on the end — so plan your content in blocks of four from the start.
